  • Abbiamo svolto "Missione Controllo! e "Rock'n roll spaziale"

    berg - 01

Vandaag onze laatste missie.

    EVA

    This is the final countdown.

During a project day the "Armstrongs" learned a lot about their bodies and how to keep them fit for a long, long time. Everytime we dicussed about health we took a look into space, to see what happens to the astronauts when they stay up there for a long time and how hard they have to work to keep themselves healthy.

Thank you for this brilliant project... we had a lot of fun and learned a lot about space, health and us!!!

  • Space Mission MCA

    Astronaut Bethany

As part of our Mission X Challenge a few of us have been training for our very own space mission. We had to apply for jobs we wanted in our space mission and have been carrying out our very own training program since. The roles we were able to apply for are Astronaut, Mission Control, Mission Specialist and Public Relations.

During our mission we will have to dock with the ISS and then capture a returning vehicle from Mars carrying out a range of soil samples to find out if there is life on Mars. We will also be monitoring the astronaut health during the mission and the effects of different space food.

As part of our training we visited the National Space Centre where we learnt about human space flight programs, carry out Astronaut training and take part in a 3D simulated Space flight.

Our mission is due to blast off from MCA next week, stay tuned for mission updates.

Mr Beard and Major Tim Peake

Today we visited the Manchester Creative Media Academy for a full afternoon of Mission X fun. While Mr Beard went off to make a dirty comet for other schools we spent our time designing and then launching our very own rockets.
After this we were treated to an amazing and inspiring talk from ESA Astronaut Tim Peake. Mea Crane even got to ask Tim a question about his favourite planet and where he would want to go in space.

Mr Beard and Miss Jones talk about our day with Classroom Medics as part of our Mission X Challange for all of our Year 7's.

  • MCA Mission X Update - Classroom Medics

    Ball Throw

As part of our Mission X Challenge the whole of Year 7 have been learning about how Astronauts stay fit and healthy. To help us Classroom Medics came in for the day and let us use some professional Medical and Sports equipment to help us assess our own health and how we could become better Astronauts.

One of the highlights was the life sized casualty simulator called Stan. We were able to monitor Stan's health as he was given a range of drugs and eventually he even died from a Cocaine overdose. Michael Odebode, Year 7 student said "My favourite part of the day was taking Stan's heart rate with a Stethoscope, when we gave him Cocaine his blood pressure went up, his heart rate went down and then he died".

Students also got to test their strength and fitness against that of an Astronaut. Bethany Green, Year 7 Student said "I really enjoyed the Sports Hall Science workshop, we got to use a special camera to measuring the speed of various objects including people!”

  • Update - Mission X at Manchester Communication Academy

    Mission X at MCA

We have been carrying out Mission X at Manchester Communication Academy. The whole Academy has embraced the mission and we have been doing a variety of events and activities accross the whole curriculum (lessons). In Science we have been learning about healthy eating, nutrition, digestion, skeletal system, joints and movement, all through looking at why Astronauts need to be fit and healthy and how they maintain all of this. In Health and Wellbeing (PE) we have been putting all of this into practice and carrying out our Astronaut training and desgining pakaging for our very own Space food that we designed and cook in Food. We even learnt how to carry out difficult and complex tasks on a space walk in Technology where we did crew assembly with a difference (big gloves and resistant materials and tools).

We have also been on a few trips including going to the National Space Centre and then to go and see ESA Astronaut Tim Peake!

  • En hilsen fra Team Bella Luna

Team Bella Luna avrunder Mission X. Foto Matias P.

Hei.

  • Cambridge University Helping Us Celebrate Mission Success

    University of Cambridge

Over 100 children and parents are intending to visit the University of Cambridge Institute of Astronomy on Monday March 18 to hear about space from Dr. Carolin Crawford. We are hoping the weather will be good so that we can use the telescopes to look at the Moon and Jupiter. Some students went last year as part of the Mission X international closing event and have told their friends what a fantastic evening they had. Rumour has it that Astro Charlie may be joining us. He is having a cultural few days as we understand he is visiting the Royal Albert Hall today.

  • Mission X Goes to Mars

    Hockerill

Combined with this years Mission X events we extended our Mission To Mars. Bridget, the Astrium Mars Rover visited us for the day and children built their own programmeable LEGO Mars Rovers. Two competitions ran through the day - one based on teamwork between year 7 and year 9 students in their house teams; and the second based on the successful perfomance of their built Mars rovers. Points were gained for activity in PE, teamwork and programming Mars Rovers. The winning Mars Rover team were from Goethe. The winning house for teamwork over the day was Da Vinci..

  • Mission X Extended into Journey Into Space

Students have been looking at the advantages, and disadvantages of space travel and have been considering how different countries are venturing into space. Students are producing powerpoint presentations by themselves and in teams. The children are supporting their presenttions with scientific evidence gained in practical sessions linked with Mission X.
