Moving like a bear on hands and knees to stronger our muscles and to coordinate our hands and legs even in a challenge of a relay race which was pretty exhausting for us. Knees hurt after the race and we were glad to switch to the funny crab move.
The race was very quick but with some mistakes because we did it backwards, so we couldn't see where the obstacles were exactly.
More fun was playing a footballgame in this position but too many crabs were blocking the goal so the game ended undecided.
After this training we were very thirsty!

- Billy Billy Bob
- Boom, kip, olifant (Jomes Bond en rotonde)
- Halli Galli
- Jungle speed
- Race door de jungle
- 5 seconden

Snoopies crew trained for the big jump to the moon today.
So we took our jump ropes and started warming up with three sets: jumping for 30 seconds with 60 seconds of pausing.
Next we trained running and jumping ropes over a soft gym mat. We could feel our muscles starting to burn. This was a lot harder to do.
To raise our fitness we jumped ropes sidewards and in straddle position which was exhausting.
Now we jumped as far as we could, to get further we bent our knees towards the belly and with a longer run up ... and we almost jumped on the moon...

After doing the excercises to strengthen our bones, we decided to study their structure and the food that help us to keep them healty. We discovered that beside physical training it is important to eat food rich in calcium and vitamin D in order to have a strong and resistant skeleton.

We did these excercises to strengthen our upper and lower muscles and bones. We understood how important these physical activities are, both on Earth and especially on the space, where bones and muscles can weaken because of microgravity.

Proviamo e riproviamo fino a diventare agili e coordinati.
We are training with "astropista" in order to control our body and learn how to keep the balance. We try over and over again until we'll become clever, agile and coordinated.

On Monday 13 March the Mission X 2017 challenge in the Netherlands started with a great event at ESA-ESTEC in Noordwijk!
We felt very privileged to be hosted by the technical heart of the European Space Agency, surrounded by fantastic space models.
After a short welcome and introduction about the project we started the Techniekpact Collegetour, a fantastic interactive lecture with ESA astronaut Andre Kuipers!
We learned all about Andre's mission to the International Space Station and we could ask him any question.
"Are there bacteria in space?", "How do you use the toilet in space?", "Can you see the hole in the ozone layer?" Just some examples of the questions that were asked by the children. We learned about the importance of exercise, and how astronauts live and work in space.
We have had a great day and can't wait to train like astronaut Andre Kuipers and his colleagues!

Climbing up the wall bars was a challange because some kids suffered from vertigo.
So we started in four groups:
Group1: Climbing wall bars down as low as possible
Group 2: Climbing the "blue" mountain on mars, touching the peak with one hand
Group 3: Climbing leaders up very high
Group 4: Climbing up and jumping down
Then we circled so each one had fun climbing different wall bars and figuered out how far everyone can go up.
We already were climbing up poles and ropes, some higher some lower but everytime as far es everybody could.
It's a pitty that the next high moutain is so far away from our region to train on it!

From the early 60s astronauts found that their taste buds worked differently in space. On the blue planet gravity pulls the body fluids into our legs. In space fluids spread through the whole body. This is called "fluid shift". The nasale passage of astronauts gets blocked, the faces become puffy and therefore the sense of smell is limited. Food gets a stale taste. This is the reason why astronauts like hot sauces which intensify taste.
Our MskSpaceTravellers examined their tongue and tested different flavors. In a self experiment they learned that food seems to loose its flavour.

Training like an astronaut needs a lot of technics, special body controll an knowledge.
This time we were lifting heavy medicine balls. The back had to be very straight while the knees were bent gently.
After some sets we had a glas of water.
Next we got together in pairs - one playing doctors while the other ones were working out on medicine balls with different weight. Then we tried to find our puls which was not easy for everybody.
At least we discovered that after some quick sets our puls was pretty fast. Then we changed partners and worked it out again. This was quite exhausting for everybody.

After Snoopies Captain did so well jumping through a hula hoop, we prepared to do easy somersalts first. Then with our special gym instructor Silvia Rapolt we worked on somersalts with the rings low. Those with more courage tried them up higher.
Another team trained somersaults while jumping through a hanging hula hoop. That was fun!
Some kids even did saltos over a string with a trampolin.
Keep on rolling snoopies!

In this activity, our children investigated the variables that affect their own sense of taste. We discussed how for astronauts, all their food and drink needs to be carried to the International Space Station (ISS) and how eating is an important part of crew morale and the one communal time when they share both a meal and
talk with each other. The children enjoyed learning that gravity acts on the fluid in our bodies and pulls it into our legs.

Our school runs a Robotics Club. By using STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), computer new technology as well as SCRATCH program, students made a robot with Lego bricks and created animation in order to explore space.
First, they created part of the celestial sphere and constellations that can be seen in our area, in order to recognize them with the help of animation equipment on horizontal and vertical movement.
Then, they made a robotic vehicle that landed on Mars and was programmed through SCRATCH so that it could move forwards and backwards in order to find and analyse rocks. This rock analysis is transmitted to Earth with the use of radio waves.

After creating their own Food Pyramid and understanding the importance of a balanced diet in the astronaut's daily life the young astronauts of the 9th elementary school of Levadia prepared breakfast in the classroom. They made space cookies, juice and fruit. The children enjoyed the process of preperation very much since they made their own space cookies and then they were looking forward to baking and tasting them.Last but not least, they came to the conclusion that everybody even if you are not an astronaut should have a healthy and balanced diet.

In the session for the people we support we worked on various different activities that would promote strength and consistency of the astronaut. The was hand eye coordination, along with the eye and other parts of the body. This was the adaptive of this mission. Hockey, pedalling the bike with your feet and hands and kicking the ball.

For astronauts in space an optimal combination of macro nutrients is a matter of survival. The demand on fats is checked strictly. Fat and oils are very important nutrients and energy suppliers. If we eat more than we need, we get thick.
These days there is a lot of hidden fat in our food because it makes the taste more intensive. In sauces, cakes and biscuits is a large quantity of fat.
Today our astronauts could slip into the role of a nutritionist. They analyzed the fat content of a cheeseburger menu with a grease spot sample.
