Today we did a taste test. Some of the things were tasty, but others were horrible. My favourite taste was the chocolate milk, which tasted sweet, but the cold coffee was disgusting and bitter. I found out that things can taste different in space. By Georgia
I found out that different tastes like sour and sweet are tasted on different parts of your tongue. By Charlie
Last week we had a lot of fun completing physical challenges like command crunches, climb a martian mountain and space walk. The hardest to do were the burpees and the sit ups. The easiest was the space walk. I was exhausted by the end of the session!
We held a our second space day at Bishops Nympton on Friday 3rd March which allowed us to share our activities with some of our parents also. We had a great turn out and enjoyed delivering the hydration station element of Mission X. They investigated the importance of staying hydrated; looked at proper hydration and also how to look for signs of dehydration.
The children especially enjoyed the practical element of making their own simulated urine samples and checking them on the chart. They also liked being able to check their own health throughout the day by relating to the work we had done in class.
It was a super activity which generated much discussion between both the children and their parents while they worked together.
Today we took part in the Explore and Discover mission. We used 2 hands to pick up objects as astronauts don't have the same ability to use fine motor skills in big gloves in space. We couldn't run so we had to walk. Every time we had to bend down we had to do it correctly - back straight and bottom to heals. We had to work as a team to get all objects back to base. We feel like we are getting fitter and each time we practise a skill we are better at it.
We can't believe how quickly Mission X is going-we wish it could last for ever.
One of our favourite missions so far has been 'taste in space'. As well as learning about the tongue, taste buds, and how space affects taste, we had a very entertaining Friday afternoon taste testing a variety of 'secret' foods. We witnessed lots of hilarious reactions to bitter, sour, sweet and salty foods... One particular salty reaction will have us laughing for some time to come...
Mission X is a great antidote to y6 SATs revision!
